Welcome to our virtual tour
Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School provides education for children ages 5-18 years with intellectual and associated disabilities. It services the Campaspe and Murray Shire area.
Echuca Specialist School was prevously known as Tehan house a junior section of the day Training Centre. In 1991 it became an SDS for students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities under DE&T. In January 1997 the school became a dual mode setting enrolling students with mild through to severe intellectual disabilities. The school’s name was then changed to Echuca Specialist School.
The school provides a practical curriculum, based on individual needs and abilities. The school follows the Victorian Curriculum and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) but makes adaptions to ensure all students achieve. It is designed to be motivating, challenging and flexible with a significant focus on life skills and personal development programmes. Students enjoy a variety of activities with camps, excursions providing highlights throughout the year.
Family connections are vital and their continued support is greatly valued. Student welfare is a high priority and contact with most families on a daily basis provides holistic support to students, parents and caregivers. Our families come from a diverse background spread over a large geographical area.
Many of our students have high paramedical needs. Access to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and psychologist services is provided as required. Specialised therapy and augmented communication equipment is available to support these programmes.
In September 2020 the school moved to its new site and changed it;s name to Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School co locating with Echuca Twin Rivers Primary School. The new education precinct will be an exciting and invaluable resource for Echuca and surrounds. Whilst remaining two separate schools, it is hoped that the staff and students will work together for the best possible outcomes for all students. The classrooms and school grounds are specifically designed to meet the diverse learning needs of our students.
The school prides itself on having an open and welcoming environment that encourages parent and community participation. Links with the community are encouraged. The school plays host to students on work experience, or community service programmes as well as providing on site training for staff from local universities.
